A couple weeks ago when I subbed I met another sub. He was very old school in his ways as a teacher and a husband. He grew up and married around the "barefoot and pregnant and tied to the kitchen" era.
I am not in any ways a feminist, but to me that to was the extreme. I like the man to do the manly chores and I will do the female chores. Really it is because I do it better. That is as domestic as I get.
Well this teacher and I got to talking about our lives. We got on to the topic of sports. I told him my hubby watches all sports. I also told him that I don't care for them, but I don't pester if Rooster wants to watch them. He told me that I was a good wife.
What he doesn't realize that we live in the day and age of the DVR. It is the best invention ever! *has dreamy look on her face* I mean this genius invented something to make your shows revolve around your schedule!
This invention means we have a PAUSE button for TV!! This is why I don't nag. If I ask him something I know he can pause. Oh this doesn't mean he doesn't try to ignore my endless barrage of questions, but at least we can live harmoniously once again.
And in my own way I have conditioned him to wait till we are all asleep to watch his sports. This way he doesn't have to pretend not to hear me, and I can still go on living without the title of "nagging wife".

When times get tough...
Writing is an outlet that I love, but I guess sometimes I have to deal with things in my own way. Not blogging lately has given me that time to readjust to the new aspects in my life.
In this time we have moved and are living with Rooster's parents. The chicks have adjusted extremely well. We have taken a hit in some ways financially so this will help us get back on track and make the decision of what to do next as it comes.
In this time I have learned to be more of a leader and a wife who fights. I admit I was dependent on Rooster to be the caretaker. I am not a feminist and love the man being in charge and doing my fighting for me. During the last month I have had to become that caretaker I wanted my husband to always be. I do have to say that it was nice to be one that people looked to, the one to tell everyone that we will come out on top. During this time I feel more of a grown up. Sounds funny since I have been a "grown up" for 12 years now. SHHH don't try and figure out numbers.
Now that I have had my blogging vacation I am ready to come back. I have many different ideas in mind and feel this is the outlet I need when times feel tough.
When times get tough you must push through, because if you give up you will miss out at the triumph climb back to the top!

Caretaker Chick
This will be my new name for awhile.
Rooster will be heading in Tuesday for some knee surgery. The athlete that he is has helped him injure his meniscus and ACL.
First injury was during a coed softball game. His foot was planted in some mud... his leg turned one way and well his knee couldn't quite keep up.
My favorite injury... well I don't want Rooster to EVER be injured, but this one brings many jokes to the table. In our chicken coop you need all the ammunition you can get.
This injury was a trip to the park with Chick 2. They were playing tag and well Rooster got up on some of the play rock and decided that the superhero in him would jump down and surprise the Chick. Well his knee not being made of steel was injured yet again.
(I wasn't there for this one, but oh I wish I were)
On Tuesday the doctor will go in and help put Rooster back together so he can be the athletic man he has always been.
His first plan will be coach Chick 2 in the upcoming soccer season. We are all excited for this!!

Germs germs germs
A family of germs have taken residence at our wonderful abode. They have latched onto us all leaving us each with a different illness. Chick 2 was the first to feel the effects of our unwanted guest leaving her with 5 days missed of school within the first month. The guest are now taking residence in Chick 3 and Rooster. I had a blip of an illness so I could take care and nurture the rest of the brood.
So to the Germ family I bid you adieu and please do not expect a warm welcoming the next time you decide our house would be great for a pit stop. You are not welcome here anymore!

Appreciation
Sometimes one doesn't appreciate the simple things of the day to day until that thing.... or in my case... person is gone.
Rooster went on his yearly trip to Las Vegas with the guys. This year was a first with 2 kids to take care of alone. I know you are playing the worlds smallest violin for me right? You are probably yelling at me to woMAN up huh.
In the 2 and a half days he was gone I realized how much I appreciated my mom in all she did when we were growing up. She raised not 1, not 2, but 3 children as a single mom. She worked full time to keep a roof over our heads, clothes on our back and food in our bellies. She took us shopping for the essentials, and shuttled us to and from our extra curricular activities. She was on top of our school careers as well. No matter how tough we may have had my mom made sure us kids didn't know. I know my time alone was insignificant compared to all the single moms out there, but this time made me see how blessed I truly am to have the companionship and help I do have.
To all the parents out there and especially my mom (I better include those single dads as well) that are doing this alone: You are all my heroes!
