Kellogg's Cereal Recall!

A friend on facebook had a link to a article talking about Kellogg's recalling their certain cereals. I usually don't pay attention to recalls since I rarely buy the products being recalled.

Recently we bought some Kellogg's cereal for the chicks, because we are nice parents and appease their every breakfast food need. Plus my itty bitty chick LOVES Fruit Loops. Fruit Loops among other cereals are on the list. When I saw the side effect was vomiting and nausea I jumped up fast and was on a mission to make sure that tainted cereal was out of our house. Thank goodness ours was fine. Plus no nausea and vomiting in these parts.

Here is the recall information: (the article is here)

Kellogg's issues a massive ceral recall affecting 28 million of boxes of cereal. Initial reports indicate some people have experienced nauseau and vomiting. Kellogg's has issued the following statement on their website. Kellogg's is recalling the following cereal products packaged in white foil bags due to an off-flavor and smell coming from the bag.

Only products with the letters "KN" following the Better If Used Before Date are included in the recall.

Kellogg's Apple Jacks
UPC 3800039136
17 ounce package with Better if Used Before Dates between APR 10 2011 and JUN 22 2011

UPC 3800039132 3
8.7 ounce packages with Better if Used Before Dates between JUN 03 2011 and JUN 22 2011

Kellogg's Corn Pops
UPC 3800039109
12.5 ounce packages with Better if Used Before Dates between MAR 26 2011 and JUN 22 2011

UPC 3800039111
17.2 ounce packages with Better if Used Before Dates between MAR 26 2011 and JUN 22 2011

UPC 3800039116
9.2 ounce packages with Better if Used Before Dates between APR 05 2011 and JUN 22 2011

Kellogg's Froot Loops
UPC 3800039118
12.2 ounce packages with Better if Used Before Dates between MAR 26 2011 and JUN 22 2011

UPC 3800039120
17 ounce packages with Better if Used Before Dates between MAR 26 2011 and JUN 22 2011

UPC 3800039125
8.7 ounce packages with Better if Used Before Dates between MAR 26 2011 and JUN 22 2011

Kellogg'sHoney Smacks
UPC 3800039103
15.3 ounce packages with Better if Used Before Dates between MAR 26 2011 and JUN 22 2011

Again, only products with the letters "KN" following the Better If Used Before Date are included in the recall.http://consumeralert.kelloggs.com/consumeralert.aspx?id=3870

CoverGirl Blast Review

I am a girl that loves make up so when I had the chance to take part in the CoverGirl Blast campaign I applied through BzzAgent.

I filled out the survey and chose my colors, Purple plume. It really isn't a color I tend to go for, but was the color that I kept leaning towards.

About the product:

"Getting sophisticated, colorful smoky eyes with little effort is what Smoky ShadowBlast is all about. Dramatic, sophisticated smoky eyes have never been this easy."

When I received my product I was skeptical, because it was a liquid type product, where I am used to using powder. I was up for the challenge. This shadow only takes 2 steps to apply and CoverGirl has a how-to video on their site that is easy to follow. See the video here below:

I followed these tips and got a new shadow look. I am not used to plums, but the product is easy to use. I did touch up once after applying to make sure my look was how I really wanted it. This was my ending result.

I would say that I really do like this product! I usually use 4 different shadows to get the look I want. Using this CoverGirl Blast Shadow I only needed 2 colors, so I did use little effort. I did not add any other colors of shadow or eyeliner to my look. I did use my own mascara.

Would I use it again?

Most definitely! Go to the CoverGirl site to learn more about their new Blast Collection!

No Phone Zone!!!

I was commenting on blogs and found that Oprah had the new Eclipse trailer. I watched it and then went to my Facebook page to share the link with my fellow Twilight Saga reader friends. As I began to type I hear a voice (I have my headphones on) talking about her child who was killed because he busy looking for his phone while driving. I clicked back to that tab and watched about 3 more stories. These stories were devastatingly sad and really painful to hear!

One lost her parents, because of the other driver texting. She too, was severely injured in this crash. It was her college graduation day.

Parents lost their daughter, because she was busy texting and lost control of her truck. She was really a beautiful girl, who had her whole life ahead of her. Not only did these parents lose their daughter, but she had a sibling that also has to deal with the loss of her sister.

I hear these stories and I really feel it should be common sense to not use your phone while driving. I live in California and the only way you can even be on your phone is if you have a hands free device. That means no texting or talking on the phone. That is not to say I never did this. I admit it. I used to. I never did it when I had my kids in the car though. I thought that since I was alone it didn't matter. How stupid was I?! I may not have had my own children in the car, but what would happen if I crashed into a car with children in it? What if they were killed? I would never be able to forgive myself.

Honestly, is there a call or text that is that important to put your life, your children's life, or even a complete stranger's life in jeopardy? Some may say, "What if this an emergency call?"
To that I reply with, "Well if you feel that in your gut then pull over, so you not only keep from being distracted and causing another emergency, but you can also give whoever is calling your undivided attention." Okay that is me being nice. What I really want to say is, "Well then call 911 not only for the emergency call you are taking, but also for the emergency you may cause while taking this emergency call."

When I am out and I see someone cut me off, or swerve a bit and they are on their phone I get extremely angry and would really like to yell at them. They are putting my kids in danger!!! They are putting themselves in danger! And all because of a call or text they had to take!!!

Please join Oprah and sign her "No Phone Zone" pledge by clicking the picture at the top of this post. If you do take the pledge please leave a comment and tell me you did so.

Always remember when you reach for your phone while driving, "Is this call or text worth my life, the life of my children, or even the life of the innocent ones out there?"

Happy Earth Day!

Today I was the cool mom and let Chick 2 play hooky from school. Okay I am not that cool.

Chick 2 is a science buff and her dream is to be a Marine Biologist. Since today was Earth day I let stay home from school to do some Earth day activities. I got some little dollar grow kits from Target, so we could plant some flowers and such. I would have done a tree, but honestly there is no room and they are not cheap.

Her big Earth day present (also a learning experience) was to see Disney's Oceans. I have to say they really outdid themselves. My eyes were filled with tears the whole movie (could have been because I am one over tired mommy, but still...). The footage is amazing and to see the damage we are doing to this wonderful place God created is astounding. Seeing it from the ocean life's point of view really puts it all into perspective.

I give this movie 2 thumbs up!

The Dove Self-Esteem Fund and Giveaway

"7 in 10 girls believe they are not good enough"

Self-esteem is a major topic in young girls and in all women. When self-esteem is low it can be dangerous and deadly.

When I had the chance to post about The Dove Self-Esteem Fund I jumped on it. This is something I HAVE to be a part of in some way. To me it is my way of making sure at least one person doesn't have to live the life I did when I was a teenager. I was bullied, I was made to feel less than what I was because I wasn't what society deemed as pretty. This is what I thought. I turned to some of the dangerous behaviors that we don't want women to resort to because of low self- esteem.

Dove cares as well and has started The Dove Self-Esteem Fund. It was developed because, "too many young girls and young women develop low self esteem from hang-ups about looks and consequently fail to reach their full potential in later life. The DSEF is committed to help girls build positive self-esteem and a healthy body image, with a goal of reaching 5 million girls globally by 2010."

To get more facts read the National Report here as well as head to The Dove Self Esteem Fund to learn about this great cause!

I may be one who suffered from low-self esteem, but I am also a mother of 2 girls. My oldest is at an age where her self-esteem can either be shot down or picked up. I of course want it as high as it can be. Let's make sure to get rid of the pre-conceived notions of what society thinks as beautiful and let's not only teach our daughters but ourselves to love our bodies. We may come in different shapes and sizes, but we are definitely all beautiful.

With this post Dove is giving me the opportunity to give away an awesome gift.

Kiddopotamus TinyDiner Place Mat: Review

Do you have a messy eater? Are you embarrassed when you leave a restaurant, because of the mess your little ones leave? If you said yes to these questions don't fret, because then you have a child just like Chick 3. This was us every time we went out to eat. She would mash food into the table, try and throw glass plates, and even leave food all in the high chair. It was never a pretty sight. It was a rush to get out so we could miss the nice stares that the bus boys would leave us, because we made their job a little harder.

While at Toys R' Us one day we came upon the best place mat money could by.

This is the Kiddopotamus TinyDiner place mat.

About the product:

Germ-Ridden Table Tops are NOT safe!
Table tops have germs that can make your baby sick. TinyDiner provides a barrier between your child's food and the germs.

Tucks Into Diaper Bag
TinyDiner rolls away into its built-in scoop, so it's ready when you need it! Simply fold into the sides, roll up and tuck into
the built-in scoop.

Stays Securely in Place
Strong suction cups keep the TinyDiner where you put it. Kids eat directly off the mat, so no worries about plates ending up on the floor.

Scoop Catches Spill
Spills land in the built-in scoop instead on child's lap or floor. Restaurant style highchairs fit under the scoop, so your child can sit right up to the table.

A Safe, Clean Eating Surface
Made in the USA with safe FDA-compliant materials- no lead, PVC, BPA, phthalates or latex. The TinyDiner is durable, washable, and stays flexible.

Review:

Restaurant trips are truly less messy now that this place mat has come into our life! I can cut up the food and place it on the tray without worrying about germs that come from the table. Chick 3 loves to pick up plates and now with the TinyDiner Place mat we can take plates out of the restaurant equation. There is less mess and it really does roll up and fit nicely into the diaper bag. This is a must have for anyone who has children still in highchairs!

Restaurant.Com: Review

I came across the website Restaurant.com from BzzAgent.

About the site:

What kind of people will like Restaurant.com? Anyone who:

  • Loves saving money
  • Enjoys trying new places to eat
  • Was totally confused by the season finale of Lost

So yeah, it's pretty much for everybody. Not that we're surprised or anything — at Restaurant.com, you can score $25 restaurant gift certificates for just $10 (sometimes even less).

Not sure about this site just yet. I like that I can get a gift certificate for less the price, but not sure about the constrictions on how much to spend. if I was getting it for myself and I know I am going to spend the mandatory amount then it is a great deal. As a gift I am not sure I feel comfortable giving a gift where they have an amount they have to spend.

PeekABoo Barn: Review

The Apple Iphone is becoming a phone that everyone has and I am one of those everyone. Chick 2 and Chick 3 love the different applications that they can play. Yes my 15 month old is all about the Iphone. It really isn't my phone anymore and my first page of applications or "apps" are all ones suitable for her to play. She does have a favorite and now favorites by the same maker.

These "apps" are Peekaboo Barn
and Peekaboo Wild by Night and Day studios.

Peekaboo Barn

"
A charming barn adventure for toddlers and families you can play on your iPhone or iPod touch.

Inside a little bouncing barn, friendly farm animals are waiting to pop out and surprise your little one. Try and guess who they are; tap the doors to find out!

Work with your child to learn the names of animals — in English or Spanish — and hear the sounds they make! Younger children will love opening the barn doors to find a new animal animation, as they learn about cause and effect and become familiar with animal names and sounds. Preschoolers will enjoy guessing animals by sound, then seeing the animal names, which helps them develop early literacy skills. And everyone will adore the illustrations by Divya Srinivasan, whose work is regularly featured in the New Yorker.

Peekaboo Barn was made for you and your toddler by artists and educators, not marketers, robots, or companies repackaging clip art. Our team has backgrounds in cognitive science and child development, and we’ve worked in educational media everywhere from Yahoo! to the Smithsonian Institution."

Peekaboo Wild

"An outdoor adventure for toddlers and families you can play on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

In the waving grasses of the African savannah, friendly wild animals are waiting to pop out and surprise your little one. Try and guess who they are; tap the rustling grass to find out!

Have a great time with your child learning the names of animals--in English or Spanish--and hearing the sounds they make! Younger children will love peeking through the grass to find a new animal, as they learn about cause and effect and become familiar with animal names and sounds. Older children will enjoy guessing animals by sound, then seeing the animal names, which helps develop early literacy skills. Peekaboo Wild once again features illustrations by Divya Srinivasan, whose work is regularly featured in the New Yorker.

Peekaboo Wild was made for you and your toddler by artists and educators, not marketers, robots, or companies repackaging clip art. Our team has backgrounds in cognitive science and child development, and we've worked in educational media everywhere from Yahoo! to the Smithsonian Institution."

What I love about these "apps" is how interactive they are. Before the barn door is opened or even the grass of the wilderness has parted you hear a muffled animal sound with the sight of the door or grass shaking. My personal favorite is the soft sound of little children voices naming the animals. There are many options to these "apps." You can go through the animals once with it ending with a picture full of animals sleeping, or loop it to go through the animals over and over. You can even change it so only hear the animal name, or just the animal sound. You can even switch the language from English to Spanish.

Chick 3 now says Peekaboo Barn (sounds like Bah Bah Bah) and knows duck and pig (new words because of the game). Peekaboo Wild has been in this family for just a day, but already turning into another favorite. I know these animals will be in her vocabulary soon as well. If you are an owner of the Iphone and have small children this "app" is a must have! Both of these applications are available on Itunes.
